FilmRise to Theatrically Release Alex Wolff's Directorial Debut Feature Film The Cat and the Moon October 25

FilmRise announces the theatrical release of Alex Wolff’s (“Jumanji”, “Hereditary”, “My Friend Dahmer”) directorial debut feature film, THE CAT AND THE MOON. This coming-of-age story follows seventeen-year-old Nick (Wolff) as he navigates a new city and new friends while dealing with intense feelings of abandonment and grief.  In addition to directing THE CAT AND THE MOONWolff is also the star and screenwriter of the film, which features Stefania LaVie Owen (“Coming Through the Rye,” The Lovely Bones”), Skyler Gisondo (“Booksmart,” “Santa Clarita Diet”) and Mike Epps (“Next Friday,” “The Hangover,” “Resident Evil: Extinction”). THE CAT AND THE MOON will be released theatrically in New York and Los Angeles on October 25, 2019.  The film will simultaneously be available for sale and rental on iTunes, Prime Video, and Google Play as well as on demand on major cable and satellite providers nationwide. 

While his mother is in rehab, Nick (Alex Wolff) comes to New York City to stay with Cal (Mike Epps), a jazz musician friend of his late father’s and the only person who can take care of him. During his stay he makes friends with a group of troubled but ultimately good-hearted kids who show him what the city has to offer.

The film is a character study of Nick who is forced to reconcile with his buried pain and vulnerabilities as they bubble up to the surface during his time away from home.  
Award-winning actor and director Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, The Leftovers, Ballers) proclaims: “Alex is a fierce, relentlessly authentic young talent. In a business full of shallow one hit wonders and social media burnouts, I would bet on Alexany day.  He’s legit.”

THE CAT AND THE MOON was produced by Ken H. Keller and Caron Rudner through their production banner Related Pictures, with Josh Boone and Peter Berg serving as Executive Producers.
THE CAT AND THE MOON has a running time of 114 minutes and is not rated. 

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Alex Wolff is an award-winning actor, musician, singer, and composer. He appears in JumanjiThe Next Level (2019), Human Capital opposite Liev Schrieber and Marisa Tomei, Bad Education opposite Hugh Jackman and Allison Janney, and Joey Klein’s Castle in the Ground. He will also be starring in The Line opposite John Malkovich. In 2018, Wolffreceived immense buzz including an award from the Los Angeles Online Film Critics Society for his role in A24’s critically acclaimed, Hereditary, which released in June 2018.  He also received the Auteur Award at the San Diego Film Festival for the role with IndieWire listing him on their 16 Best Film Performances by Actors in 2018.  Also in 2018, Wolff starred in the Polly Draper directed Stella’s Last Weekend and in The House of Tomorrow for which he received rave reviews for his role opposite Asa Butterfield.  In November 2017, he starred in My Friend Dahmer, based on the acclaimed graphic novel by John Backderf.  Wolff also received critical acclaim for his role in Peter Berg’s Patriots Day about the Boston Marathon bombing.  Most recently, Wolff co-starred in the Manhattan Theatre Club’s production of Donald Marguiles’ Long Lost which ran through July 2019. Wolff makes his feature directorial debut with The Cat and the Moon (2019)for which the filmmaker also wrote and stars.
