Marcus Miller, Esperanza Spalding to head Oasis Jazz U Festival May 20-27

Oasis Hotels & Resorts – the leading all-inclusive vacation resort brand in the Mexican Caribbean – will host its sixth annual Oasis Jazz U Festival on May 20th and 27th at the newly-renovated Oasis Arena at Grand Oasis Cancun. Widely regarded for bringing together some of the world’s greatest jazz musicians, hotel guests and visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy an eclectic mix of performances at the resort that the brand affectionately calls the “Grandmaster of Fun.” As part of the all-inclusive concept, the events will be offered complimentary to all Oasis guests.

Marcus Miller, American jazz composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, will headline the festival’s first show on May 20th. The two-time Grammy winning artist has collaborated with trumpeter legend Miles Davis, pianist Herbie Hancock, singer Luther Vandross and saxophonist David Sanborn and at Grand Oasis Cancun, will follow a performance by Daniel Peñalver, Cuban saxophonist and flutist, performing with his Latin Project band that includes trumpeter Freddie Hendrix and pianist Elio Villafranca.

The following week, Esperanza Spalding, American jazz bassist and singer will take the Oasis Arena stage. The four-time Grammy-winning performer was the first jazz artist to win Best New Artist in 2011. She is considered a musical prodigy and first played the violin as a member of the Chamber Music Society of Oregon at the young age of five years old. Esperanza will follow a performance by Troker, a world-renowned funkadelic jazz band from Mexico. The six-person group describes their sound as “between the sublime and dangerous” and mixes metal and funk with jazz and mariachi traditions. The festival will kick off with a performance by Hiram Gómez, Mexico City born bassist and composer with a passion for jazz fusion, on May 18 at Kinky Night Club at Grand Oasis Cancun.

“The Oasis Hotels & Resorts entertainment team has put together an impressive mix of talent for this year’s Oasis Jazz U Festival, an event that each year draws more attendees and continues to solidify itself as one of our brand’s biggest draws,” said Jesus Almaguer, director of marketing and communications for Oasis Hotels & Resorts. “This will be the first time we host the festival at our newly-renovated arena and we expect the venue’s new technology and lighting equipment to take this event to the next level.”

Following a thorough construction project, Oasis Arena features the industry’s most modern light and sound technology and is ready to set the stage for these stellar live performances. With the ability to accommodate up to 2,500 fans, Oasis Arena offers attendees nearly 30,000-square-feet of combined event space, in addition to the outdoor deck areas, a beach club stage and more than 20,000-square-feet of oceanfront poolside terraces.

The renovation was part of a brand effort to solidify Grand Oasis Cancun as the destination’s go-to entertainment resort. In addition to hosting live concerts, festivals and shows at Oasis Arena, the Red Circus offers guests outdoor dinner shows featuring dramatic, acrobatic performances that highlight Mayan culture and tell the story of Mexico. By the pool – stretching a quarter mile making it Cancun’s longest – visitors can enjoy comedy skits and at the Beach Club they can dance the night away to live DJ sets. At the resort’s Kinky Night Club, things get a little bit more promiscuous with live cabaret performances and at the brand-new Red Casino at Grand Oasis, guests can try their luck in a handful of casino games.

Non-hotel guests may purchase general admission tickets for USD $32 or VIP tickets for USD $50, which include alcoholic beverages and snacks. Tickets can be purchased at Grand Oasis Cancun, Smart by Oasis, Café Nader or online at www.oasishoteles.com/en/events/upcoming-events.
