Reality star Rebecca Crews to release Smooth Jazz and Inspirational album in the fall

BET's "Family Crews" reality star Rebecca Crews, who is also the wife of actor Terry Crews ( "Are We There Yet" and "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire", has released the single "Can I Stay", a track from her upcoming CD scheduled for release in the fall.

"Can I Stay" can best be described as a tasteful hybrid of jazz and gospel of which Rebecca has solid roots. Rebecca's father was a musician who played bass with Count Basie although the trombone was his primary instrument.
Rebecca's father also played in big bands in jazz festivals in Chicago and is the person who inspired her to incorporate jazz in her songwriting.

As for the gospel side of things, Rebecca mentioned it has always been a mainstay in her life as well. While growing up in Benton Harbor, Michigan, she formed the group The Chosen Ones where she served as a singer, songwriter and producer.

Although the CD will follow the trend of gospel R&B and jazz, Rebecca said that jazz will in fact be the prevailing genre.

Rebecca talked fondly about the inspiration behind "Can I Stay", a track that she described as one with melodies that seemed to ooze out of her soul one afternoon while driving home from church rehearsal. "As I was riding in my car I heard the melody and I started singing this song that seem to come out of nowhere and it seem like it was flowing out of me. She said she immediately started penning the words to the melody and ultimately performed it at local parties and for friends who encouraged her to finally record it.

The rest of the CD will take on a purging and cathartic nature following in the vein of the first single. Rebecca makes no excuses for the trials that she has been through including sexually abused. This issue will be addressed in her single "Innocence."

"Make Me Pay" talks about the struggle in her marriage; she also wrote "Holding On", a track about loving her husband in spite of their challenges with his addiction and other issues.

Speaking candidly about Terry's porn addiction, Rebecca rejoiced over the fact that her husband had finally triumphed over his inner demons. "He checked into rehab and was a different person when he came home...very humble and willing to admit all the things he had been holding all his life which had nothing to do with me."

Come fall, Rebecca will be out and about promoting her new CD. Fans can expect a second single which will be released at the end of August or early September. She is also anxious about touring as well.

"Music is something that has always been in my heart and soul. I have been doing it since I was six years old. Without pursuing this, I would not feel fulfilled."

With a background in musical theater she hopes to also add some pizzazz to her performance by incorporating dance into her vocal performances as well.

The lady with the funky platinum hair is also shopping around for gigs on film and tv, including talk shows.
