Regina Carter and Nnenna Freelon pay homage to Dinah Washington and Sarah Vaughn

On December 14, violinist Regina Carter and her Quartet will join singer Nnenna Freelon as part of the TD Jazz concert "Celebrating Dinah and Sarah." The concert will be held at breathtakingly beautiful Koerner Hall at Toronto's Royal Conservatory of Music and it will celebrate the 90th birthdays of jazz dames Dinah Washington and Sarah Vaughn.

I've had the pleasure of seeing Regina perform years ago in a small space and  I am already getting goosebumps thinking about how great she will sound at the Koerner where the acoustics are perfect!

Regina is described as one of the leading jazz violinist of our time; she is praised for her unparalleled ability to integrate the finer elements of jazz, funk, Motown, African, and soul music with an adventurous rhythmic sensibility. As a virtuoso jazz violinist, she draws from a diverse well of influences that include classic jazz to Motown swing, funk and world music. Regina's musical career has spanned over two decades and she has established herself as an enduring and creative force in jazz thanks to her acclaimed solo and collaborating recordings. Regina's quartet will consist of  Xavier Davis on piano, Jesse Murphy on bass and Alvester Garnett on drums.

I do believe I was introduced to Nnenna years ago when she appeared on BET Jazz channel. I was intrigued by this little lady with such a grand voice; I eventually invested in her music. Nnenna is a six-time Grammy Award nominee who has also earned a well-deserved reputation as a compelling and captivating live performer. With a soul-driven finger on the pulse of jazz and armed with a variety of prestigious accolades, including the Billie Holiday Award and Eubie Blake Award, this singer shows no signs of stopping.

Her various recordings under Concord Music Group, including the 2010 release Homefree, has delighted both fans, and critics alike. An accomplished singer, composer, producer, and arranger (as well as budding actress), one thing is certain—Nnenna Freelon is a true original. Nnenna will be joined by Brandon McCune on piano, Wayne Batchelor on bass and Adonis Rose on drums.

Tickets for the concert are priced at $40 and up; it really depends on where you want to sit. As always you know what I always say; go out there and support live jazz and this beloved genre alive. Here's the link to purchase the TICKETS
