An Evening of Jazz and Art put on by the LIM College Fashion Education Foundation

Fancy some art with your jazz? The LIM College Fashion Education Foundation will present "An Evening of Jazz and Art" on Tuesday November 5, 2013 at the LIM College's FashionOpolis, 12 East 53rd Street New York, NY.

Founded in 1977, the LIM Fashion Education Foundation is an independent, tax-exempt 501 © 3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for student scholarships and educational enhancements for LIM College students.

The art portion of the event will feature an exhibition and auction featuring the works of Barbara Bachner, who is an alum of LIM College. Barbara is an abstract painter whose most recent exhibition of new work Circle of Life, was described as "a transformation of basic shapes and colors into power compositions, which convey enlightenment reached through an aesthetic experience."

The students at the LIM College Visual Merchandising department were so inspired by Bachner's work that they created three-dimensional works of art using paint, applied, materials, and their own imagination.

The work done by the students will also be on display at the event and ultimately auctioned off.

The jazz aspect of things will feature pianist Jon Weber, saxophonist/clarinetist Dan Levinson and vocalist Molly Ryan. They will be introduced by jazz historian Will Friedwald.

Jon's passion for music began at the early age of three when it was discovered that he had absolute pitch and recall while playing his toy organ. By the time he was six he had already memorized close to 2000 standards from his grandmother's piano rolls.

By the time he was a teenager he was already writing his own music and at 19 he and his quintet opened for many jazz musicians including Pat Metheny, Freddie Hubbard, Angela Bofill and Stanley Turrentine to name a few.

On the night of the event there will be cocktails and live Jazz from 6-7 p.m. The cost for this portion of the event is $50. The exhibition and auction starts from 7-8pm and will cost $20.
