Mindi Abair to introduce a mix of jazz, R&B and soul on "In Hi-Fi Stereo"

Mindi Abair fans, mark your calendars. Your favorite sax player is about to drop her latest CD set called "In Hi-Fi Stereo" on May 18th. I got a hold of the demo and you are in for a treat. Let's just say that she has paired up with some really solid industry musicians such veteran drummer James Gadson, bassist Reggie McBride and then there is vocalist Lalah Hathaway who would blow you away with her impressive chops.
Most of the songs on this CD just make you want get out of your chair and shake something and you gotta blame that first track "Any Way You Wanna" for that impulsive move. This a vibrant funky beat that gets its shine from a bubbling bassline and Abair's saxophone taking top form.
Elsewhere on the CD is the Motown inspired "All Star"and later take one for New Orleans in the form of "L'Espirit Nouveau" which features a musical jambalaya of sorts; there is a rag time feel to it and the basic instruments used on this track is definitely a refreshing break from the world of synths. I personal like David Ryan Harris' voice on the track "Be Beautiful" which is a very soulful ballad with a great message. And continuing in the vocals trend Lalah Hathaway delivers the James Brown classic "It's a Man's Man's World" a soul stirring track that Lalah sings with a lot of conviction. Closing the song set is "The Alley".
